If you do install a 2GB PC2-5300 200-PIN DDR2-667 SODIMM in both the bottom and top memory slots of the iMac, the About This Mac window and Apple System Profiler will both show that you have "4 gb of ram" of installed. However, Activity Monitor and other similar programs will show that only 3GB of SDRAM has been addressed for use in your iMac.
