What are the physical memory limits on a Windows server ?

32-bit or 64-bit ? More bits equals lower limitation on physical memory in your Windows server

The limit of physical memory that is supported on any computer system or server that runs the Microsoft® Windows® operating system is determined by the hardware configuration and the edition of Windows in use. On 32-bit hardware, the virtual address space is 4 GB and the maximum amount of physical memory ranges from 4GB to 128GB. With 64-bit hardware, the virtual address space is 16 terabytes and the maximum amount of memory ranges from 64GB to 1 terabyte

Limits on physical memory in a server for 32-bit platforms also depend on the Physical Address Extension (PAE), which allows 32-bit Windows systems to use more than 4GB of physical memory.

The following table specifies the limits on physical memory for Windows Server 2008. Limits greater than 4 GB for 32-bit Windows assume that PAE is enabled.
